Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on 2nd March, 2022 - it's the start of the season of preparation for the Church's great feast of Easter. As it is an important time of year we will be offering special ways of marking this season.
On this page, you will find a listing of the opportunities available for reflection, learning and worship during the season of Lent at St. John's.
Ash Wednesday - 2nd March 2022
We begin Lent with two special services to mark the day, both of which will include the traditional Imposition of Ashes - where Ashes made from Palm Crosses from a previous Lent are put in the sign of the cross on the forehead of all who wish.
10:00 am - A simple Eucharist with Ashes
7:30 pm - Parish Eucharist, with choir, hymns, sermon, and Ashes
Book Study
Through Lent we are reading Isabelle Hamley's book Embracing Justice, a powerful and prophetic book which encourages us to think again about the concept of justice, revisit the Scriptural foundation of justice-making, and consider again our call to be people of justice. Mored details can be found here: The Big Church Read.
The book is available via download, online, or can be ordered from bookstores.
Wednesdays - 12:30 pm
In person at the Parish House, feel free to bring your lunch
Thursdays - 6:30 pm
On Zoom, please email the church office for the link.
As for the first session very few people have received their copy of the book, a summary of the opening sections is downloadable below. There is also an introductory video here
