“Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly.”
― Langston Hughes
Our Scriptures are full of dreams, dreamers, visions, and visionaries. A quick search of Bible verses about dreams leads us to at least 100 which mention various combinations of dreams and visions - which are essentially the same thing in Scripture - God's messengers, or God themself, appear to various people through dreams and visions in both the Hebrew and the Christian Scriptures, often with messages of warning, or an announcement, or reassurance.
Our dreams are equally ways in which the Divine can speak to us, places where our filter-free minds can see in a different way, places where the God who is beyond all and in all is able to meet us. These dreams and visions can then inspire our waking dreams and visions, of a world waiting to be born, a new way of being where the dream of God - the dream of justice, compassion, love, and grace - can be brought to life.
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
Joel 2:28
