“There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.”

Amanda Gorman

An old proverb (of uncertain provenance) says 'It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness'  - As followers of Jesus we are called to be those who, through love and service, seek to change the world for the better. The price of doing this work may be high - as we see in the condemnation and death of Jesus which we meditate on over these days of Holy Week - but we continue to be called to remain faithful, remain loving, remain hopeful.

Of course we do none of this alone - in partnership with God and with one another we are the lights to the world.

Scripture

Jesus said

‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5.14-16
