There are 12 windows on the south side, all created by Hugh Powell (1920-1994). Each window portrays a Disciple of the early Christian church. These windows are rich in symbol and biblical reference. The colours in these windows are deep because they receive the full exposure of the south sun.
St. Peter ~ "Thou art the Christ" ~ St. Peter is holding the Keys of the Kingdom. See his shame in the crowing of the rooster when he denied Jesus three times, and his question about his feet being washed by Jesus depicted in the window.
St. John ~ "We love him because he first loved us" ~ The symbol of St. John, the eagle, can be seen on the window. See Jesus intrusting his mother Mary to John during the crucifixion.
St. James the Great ~ "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation" ~ See him witnessing the transfiguration, as well as the sword with which he was executed. This window is dedicated to David Russell Ker (1862-1923) and his wife Laura Agnes (1874-1937).
St. Philip ~ "Faithful is he that calleth you" ~ See the loaves and fish, for which St. Philip was present for.
St. Paul ~ "Lord what wilt thou have me to do" ~ This window shows St. Paul being whipped, writing his letters, and holding his "sword of the spirit". This window is dedicated to Dr. J.S Plaskett (1865-1941)
St. Thomas ~ "Let us go also that we may die with him" ~ See him viewing Jesus' wounds from the crucifixion after doubting the resurrection.
St Andrew ~ "The Lord is my light and my salvation" ~ See him carrying a net of fish, symbolic of his first meeting with Jesus, as well as the X-shaped cross he was crucified on, now known as "St Andrew's Cross". This window is dedicated to Flying Officer Thomas Henry Caulkin (1920-1942).
St James the Less ~ "Be ye doers of the world and not hearers only" ~ See him holding a fuller's club, as well as the Mitre in the bottom right corner, as he is believed to be the first Bishop of Jerusalem. This window is dedicated to Marian Johnson.
St Jude ~ "Keep yourselves in the love of God" ~ St Jude is holding his symbol of an axe. See also the angel visiting the shepards to tell of Christ's birth. This window is dedicated to George Penketh and his wife Mary.
St Matthew ~ "Judge not that ye be not judged" ~ See the angel, which is the symbol of St. Matthew, as well as the bags of coins, representing him as a tax collector before he was called to follow Jesus. This window is dedicated to Leonard Batchelor.
St Bartholomew ~ "Rabbi thou art the son of God" ~ See him holding the knife he was skinned alive with. This window is dedicated to those who gave their lives in World Word II.
St Simon ~ "We have seen the Lord" ~ This window depicts the stone tablets containing the 10 Commandments. This window is dedicated to Florence and Francis Mulliner.
