Reflection

Today, on Sunday, just as every Sunday, we meet as Community - not only because we like the music, or the liturgy, or the coffee and cookies after the servic,- but because we are seeking to built up together to be strong in our faith, our commitment to justice, our shared spirituality, and our desire to learn with and from one another as we find our place in this Sacred Story of which we are a part. For our Church of St John the Divine, living into that story means living into the values we see in our Scriptures and our tradition, values of justice, equity, diversity, the welcome of the stranger, affirming the God-givenness of every human being and all aspects of what we are as human beings - our race, gender identity, sexuality, history, culture and individuality.

We meet to encourage and strengthen one another, and to be strengthened, to provoke courage in one another and work together in partnership with the Spirit of God, to work together in Christ, and to work as Co-Creators with God to transform the world in love.

Scripture

Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for the one who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10.23-25 (emphasis mine)
