When we look back at the struggles of our forebears we can find hope in the forward movement that our society has taken over the years. Progress may feel fragile, justice and equity may feel precarious - but there has been change for the better. This doesn't mean that we should consider no longer standing for justice, it doesn't mean that the work is anything like done - but we gain inspiration, strength, and indeed, hope, from that which those who came before us have accomplished. Their resilience in the face of insurmountable odds, their dedication despite persecution and brutalization - all of this shows that change, though hard fought, can come.
In our ongoing dedication to justice, equity, peace, and the fullness of life which is promised in our Scriptures, we continue in partnership with one another and with the Divine, the work to which we are called.
Finally, siblings, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8
