Reflection

It's all very well talking about hope as a general theme, but where does our hope come from? Is it a fuzzy optimism and a general wish that all will be OK in the end? Is it a recognition that life is cyclical and that the world goes through seasons of cold and dark, warm and light year by year?

For those of us who are Christians our hope is rooted in the constant companionship of God and the love of God in which we are grounded. The grace of God accompanies us through the best and worst of times, and reminds us constantly that we are deeply and profoundly loved for who we are. The love of God binds us together in community as we travel together with others in these uncertain times.

When our hope remains in God we find ourselves secure in the knowledge of our value, our worth, and the promise we will never be forsaken.

Scripture

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills; *
from where is my help to come?
2 My help comes from GOD, *
the maker of heaven and earth.
3 GOD will not let your foot be moved *
and GOD who watches over you will not fall asleep.
4 Behold, GOD who keeps watch over Israel *
shall neither slumber nor sleep;
5 It is GOD who watches over you; *
GOD is your shade at your right hand,
6 So that the sun shall not strike you by day, *
nor the moon by night.
7 GOD shall preserve you from all evil; *
it is GOD who shall keep you safe.
8 GOD shall watch over your going out and your coming in, *
from this time forth for evermore.
