This is a festive service of choral music and favourite Christmas hymns, with mulled wine and sweets following at the back of the church. Based on the famous service of Lessons and Carols at King's College, Cambridge, this is a traditional and beautiful way to start Christmas.
Congregational singing is led by the church's substantial Casavant pipe organ.
This year the choir sings carols mostly by female-identified composers, ranging from the festive to the transcendent, including:
  • June Nixon, Holly and the Ivy
  • Sally Beamish's In the Stillness
  • Chris Kovarik's The Angel Gabriel
  • Joanna Marsh's O magnum mysterium
  • Lucy Walker's In the bleak midwinter
  • Cecilia McDowall's In dulci jubilo
  • Elizabeth Poston Jesus Christ the Apple Tree
