A sequence of readings and music based around the ancient ‘O Antiphons’ exploring the themes of Advent: longing, endings, beginnings, peace, hope,
and ultimately new life. Always one of the most moving services of the year, the persistence of hope in a deeply imperfect world seems particularly relevant today.
The Choristers of St John the Divine lead the music in this service, with pieces by Elizabeth Coxhead, Lucy Walker, Nathaniel Dett, Sarah Rimkus, Jean Langlais, Edgar Bainton, Joanna Forbes l’Estrange, and Paul Manz.
The congregation joins in singing the great hymns of Advent.
