Reflection

I knew that at some point during this season with the theme of 'Hope' that I would be sharing 'Hope is the thing with feathers.' - but when I did so I thought it was just the poem that I would share, however when I went looking for an illustration to accompany the poem I found the picture above and I was tempted to leave it as it is for your contemplation.

On further reflection, I do think that many of us on seeing the title 'Hope is the the thing with feathers' would expect to have the beautiful poetry of Emily Dickinson available, so I will add that below and leave you with the choice to meditate on the picture alone, or the poem also.

Poem

“Hope” is the thing with feathers

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
